John,
Thanks for filtering out the static and seeing the big picture. I've been following the rail cars indicator you suggested and find it very interesting to see the real picture of economic activity.

A question: What impact will commercial property defaults have on the overall big picture and why is the government not trying to do more to help free up lending in this area? Many conservative owners with quality properties with good income will not find financing and go under. This will again impact the banks.

To add to your thinking on the big picture.... like most people I held off on purchasing a new discretionary items for about a year while waiting to see what the economy was going to do. Even though business is slow, I decided to replace some older technology so I can remain productive. I bought new iphone, new wireless router and new apple laptop. The new technology offering was too compelling. Great prices great productive features. My wife and I as well as others we know are cutting out extra travel, eating out less and cutting other discretionary spending but are now starting to upgrading our productivity tools and education spending, conferences, trade periodicals, trade groups etc.

Keep up the great clearifying posts. You do a great job on seeing past the noise.

Listen John, we are not all out there buying IPODS.... some of us have Doctor's bills that keep going up even though there is NO inflation in sight ! Not to mention Bank Fees for Greedy banks trying to pry into our Wallets because they are making less interest elsewhere.

Actually Most of us are hoarding our cash for good reason.... The Banks Have shown us THEY can't be trusted and the word "LOAN" to them is a nasty ,dirty, Consumer NoNo. Currently Banks conside the Consumer a Cancer they wish would just "go Away" they are currently using the tarp monies on OVERNIGHT transactions to their fellow bankers and leaving the consumers out yet using taxpayer monies all the while

Please Consider us "Consumers" out here as HUMANS ... Not these Grocery shopping, Ipod Buying Idiots.... you are portraying us as

Otherwise I will have to change my opinion of YOU which currently has be placed on Probation.
